Apple and Meatloaf

2 Granny smith apples – grated
750g Minced Beef
1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
1 onion – finely chopped
salt and pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 eggs – beaten
3 tablespoons Tomato Sauce
2 tablespoons Dark Brown sugar

Combine grated apple, mince, breadcrumbs, onion, Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper to taste. Add beaten eggs and mix thoroughly. (Note you may not need all the breadcrumbs, so put in last as required).

Press mixture into a greased ovenproof casserole.
Level the surface with a spatula.
Spoon over the tomato sauce and then sprinkle with the brown sugar.

Cook in a moderately slow oven (160 – 180c) for approx 1 1/4 hours or until done (it shrinks away from the edges of the casserole).
