Honey Jumbles

60g butter
2/3 cup golden syrup
1 3/4 cups plain flour
1 tsp bicarb
1 tsp dried ground ginger
1 tsp mixed spice
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1 Tbsp milk

# Melt butter. Add golden syrup and heat to a boil. Remove from heat and stand 10 minutes.
# Add remaining ingredients and stir until smooth. Cover and stand 2 hours.
# Turn mixture onto lightly floured surface and knead lightly. Roll out and cut into shapes 1cm thick.
# Bake on lightly greased trays in moderate oven for 8-10 minutes.
# When cooked spread evenly with Royal Icing (can return to moderate oven for 2 minutes to firm icing).
# When cold remove from tray.

Royal Icing

1 egg white
1 1/4 cups pure icing sugar

Mix together and spread.
